let’s kick this week off with some
✨🎶 music news babyyyyy 🎶✨
i’m very excited to announce i’ll be playing a hometown show in aberdeen on the 18th of july! this is my first ever proper hometown show. me and my guitar pal nic will be there to play you all of my hurricane songs, as well as the new geology songs i’ve been writing these past few months!
if you are coming, the very best thing to do is buy a ticket right away. it helps us and the venue prepare for numbers and supports the show right off the bat.
i ended up writing a long post about how stressful booking tour was, but then i decided we all deserved something more fun. so, let me introduce you to my
☁️👻 bad poetry collection 👻☁️
a few years back, i got into the habit of looking for funny poetry written by kids and posted online by their primary schools. i don’t know how i got into it, but there was something so addictive about combing the internet for an absolute gem which hardly anyone had read or appreciated. kids and teenagers can come out with the worst, and also the best stuff. which is oftentimes the same thing.
let’s ease in with this one, frothy frogs:
hands up if you too would eat at ‘the domp.’ this might even be my new nickname for my kitchen.
the great thing about kids writing poetry is that they can come out with some really profound imagery, and then pivot back so quickly to drivel it gives you whiplash. ‘darker than heaven’ is such a winning line, and then we just go, well… literal drivel:
poetry has oft been a medium for exploring longing:
and finally, there’s nothing better than a strong finishing line which packs an emotional punch:
but don’t get me wrong, i really, truly love this stuff. i say ‘bad poetry’ but i do think there’s something so natural and funny and clever about this writing. just the unwitting hilarity which can be generated by someone writing purely what they feel. it’s like a magic channel and goddamn, let literature give me a soul smelling of burnt black pudding any day.
i have a lot, and i mean A LOT of this stuff in a desktop folder. maybe we should have a bad poem every week? let’s do that. it’s going to be a new segment.
things i liked
