📓 October Mini-Diary
At the start of October I logged out of Instagram and gave my passwords to Angus. The aim was to give myself enough mental space to conjure up more songs. This worked (kinda? sorta? yes!) and I wrote one song and have already started on another. I think we underestimate how much space and quiet we need sometimes as creatives. It doesn’t have to be ALL OUTPUT or ALL INPUT. Sometimes it just needs to be… nothing. No thoughts, head empty.
We launched Season 2 of the Write Me A Song podcast, the songwriting show I host with Edward Randell! This season has some fun songwriting challenges, so go have a listen to see what we came up with this season.
I got a few copies of Geoscientist Magazine in the mail, which contain a review of my album! My first album review in PRINT! And it’s in a geology magazine lmao
I handed in my notice to my apartment in London! Ahhh. Moving to Scotland is feeling a little more real now.
We had a Halloween party and I dressed up as a ‘biblically accurate angel,’ sticking googly eyes to my face and wings. Because not all angels in the Bible were guys with wings. Some were EYES WITH WINGS.
💿 Songwriting

I’m keeping a list of songs I wrote, co-wrote, or worked on each month. Here’s the titles of the songs I worked on in October:
☁️ Big Cloud (new!)
🌠 Star Theory (new!)
🏰 Untouchable
I am really loving the titles that these new songs have. They just exude the energy of this new project. What do you think this new album will sound like?
If you want a sneak peek, I’m starting to share demos on Patreon.

👁️ 👄 👁️ Things I Saw With My Eyes
✧.* Best: I feel like I didn’t really see very much this month, in the way of films and TV. But my eyes had a beautiful feast on the words of Patricia Lockwood, who I briefly mentioned last month. In October I read her book No One Is Talking About This, and it was so beautiful and funny and irreverent (‘can a dog be twins?’) and then POW, SUCKER PUNCH TO THE GUT. I really loved it and also the cover is beautiful, too:
𖡼.𖤣𖥧𖡼.𖤣𖥧 Honourable mentions: My friend was in a two-hander play which I saw last night, about a magic double act in a working man’s club. Also I have been watching Celebrity Traitors of course, and am absolutely baffled at how bad these celebs are playing it.
👂 👀 👂 Things I Heard With My Ears
✧.* Best: The best thing I heard all month was a latecomer!!! Leo showed me this song when we were in the studio the other day and I just had to go and look up everything else this duo have made. If you ever wanted a true blue BLAST of 00’s nostalgia, LOOK NO FURTHER. Their EPs ‘After’ & ‘After 2’ are so good. New favs and constantly on rotation.
𖡼.𖤣𖥧𖡼.𖤣𖥧 Honourable mentions: Friends of the ‘sletter, Jacque & Phoebe, launched the next season of their podcast, “Do You Ever Feel Like” with a Gilmore Girls episode. Which then prompted me to go watch an episode of Gilmore Girls and finally realise that this show is a complex mixture of cosiness and GRATING DIALOGUE. Also big shout out to (obviously) the Taylor Swift album carrying me through the first half of this month, and Demi Lovato’s new albummmmmm. Pop music October!!
