A Newsletter by Olivia Rafferty
About this Newsletter
Every Thursday I share ideas and stories about songwriting, geology, the creative practice and weird things on the internet that I like. This space is a direct window into my creative process and all the interesting things which fuel me to make songs and art.
Here’s some things I’ve written about:
geology (more on this if you read below!)
keeping a notebook
quitting Spotify
beauty standards in the music industry
my favourite music at the moment
how to be creative and stay creative

About Me
Well, where to start? I’m Scottish, first of all, and from Aberdeen which is on the North East coast. I live in London right now and have been for nearly ten years. I’m a songwriter and have had my music featured on BBC Radio Scotland, Folk Radio UK, and I’ve also played festivals such as Canadian Music Week.
I’m the kind of songwriter who likes to have a hand in every part of their creative process, so I write songs but I also love to create album artwork, music videos, and all the little accoutrements involved with releasing music. If you subscribe you will get a very good idea of just how much I love to create and make stuff, especially visual things.
Right now I am working on a huge project which has been going on for the last 2 years, and actually began with this newsletter. I’ve been writing songs about geology. Why? I am not a geologist! But during the pandemic I discovered the topic, and kept myself sane by watching a lecture every morning and taking notes. Geology honestly kept me from losing my cool during lockdowns. I wanted to share all the cool stuff I learned with everyone, and as a songwriter, what better way than to write songs?
Keep up to date to see what happens with the album, and to get notified when the music drops!
