The songs I wrote in my twenties read like cryptic diary entries. They cite events such as walking down Runnymede Road in the snow, making coffee for a chef I worked with at a French restaurant...
What was your early music/writing/artwork/poetry/etc like? Was it pretty good or do you cringe to think about it?
Mustard's early poetry written in high school and early college they consider really cringe.
Did you have a restaurant job when you were in your twenties? What was the best/worst thing about it?
Mustard worked at a pizza restaurant in their twenties for a few years. Later learned they were lactose intolerant. Best thing was our special "red potato" pizza which the place was known for.
Wonderful! Thank you for sharing, I love these. Definitely feel the magic. We moved to England from Latvia when I was 15, so this year marks exactly half of my life spent “home” and half of my life spent “away.
And you know this, but by the time an artist is “emerging” on bbc radio 1 they probably have about a decade worth of experience 😅
omg love the tiny songs (listened to almost all of them on your YouTube channel) lol. I've been wanting to experiment with music lately and that might be the idea that gets me to actually make things. thank you for sharing :)
I love the way songwriting evolves and reflects your growth through life.
When I was ten I wrote my first song called “Really? (Then kiss my heart goodbye)” — I remember titles in the ‘90s featuring parentheses more often than not. It was about a cheating boyfriend and included the line “I’m staring at the redial button just right here…” I dreamt of sending it to the (Dixie) Chicks to record. lol. What unbridled confidence we possess as children…
