Hi, Olivia and Maggie. While I'm sorry to hear men are Dan-splaining to you (embarrassing), I'm glad from that you managed to make this issue that's so much fun. I really enjoyed it.

This was exactly what I needed today. I was introduced to Steely Dan on my first day of college in 1974. Pretzel Logic. I loved both of your covers. Wonderful job Olivia and Maggie!

thanks Jim! first time I listened to Pretzel Logic all the way through was when my Dad temporarily gifted me his record collection when i was at uni. think it's still my favourite Dan album to this day.

For years I've noodled a Steely Dan graphic novel called "Katy Lied" but can't draw, can only imagine scenes. Entire story built on first five LPs by Don and Walt aka Donnie Fabriani and Whacker Becker. Fun stuff.

i would love to see this. the adventures of Donnie and Whacker! thanks for reading!

Now Walt is a Godwhacker, but that’s a whole different tier of being. 😉

Fun post. This book is a must-read for any DanHead. A deep dive into the made-up characters of their lore.

“Quantum Criminals” released earlier this year.

I would also add that their cynical lyrics set to a happy tune is their magic. They tackled masturbation, pedophilia, narcissism, terrorism, drug dealing, suicide, group sex...you name it...all sung gleefully ☺️

thanks for reading! I did see Quantum Criminals pop up when I did some research for this post. will definitely have to add it to my list.

“Quantum Criminals” is going right on my reading list! Thanks for reading and for the rec.

Quantum Criminals was where I was going with “Katy Lied,” so need to check it out. I imagined “the 35 sweet goodbyes” as Donnie and Katy saying goodbye (and love you, will miss you) in 35 different languages while waiting for the Wolverine up to Annandale. *shrugs*

Katy lies...you can see it in her eyes. She’s really a bookkeeper’s son who doesn’t want to hurt no one. But she identifies as Katy. 😉

In my Katy Lies, Donnie Fabriani pushes Richard Nixon off the Hoover Dam. We see the effect through Donnie’s mirrored aviator sunglasses. Nice, huh?

Probably that gaucho amigo in the booth at Chows with the Fez on. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Don’t make anybody do it without the Fez on.

Absolutely not. Already way too many provocateurs in the World.

Small quibble: Citizen Steely Dan was a CD box set collecting the prior albums, not a “reunion album.”

Babylon Sisters. Reminds me why I both long, and avoid, LA.

As a Steely Dan nerd myself, I have to say, this was fantastic!
